Once again, the Kansas City Chiefs continued their undefeated season in dramatic fashion.
Trailing Denver late in the 4th quarter, KC’s Patrick Mahomes led a successful drive that put the Chiefs ahead 16-14 with only 6 minutes remaining. In the ensuing possession, Denver — led by rookie quarterback Bo Nix — drove downfield to set up what would have been a game-winning 35-yard field goal in the final seconds. However, the kick was blocked by KC’s Leo Chenal, thus securing a 16-14 win for the Chiefs and advancing the NFL’s lone undefeated team to a 9-0 record.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce made history with his 76th touchdown, surpassing Tony Gonzalez for the most touchdowns in franchise history. Mahomes finished the game with 266 passing yards and a touchdown. KC’s success this season has been marked by close victories, including wins over the Ravens, Bengals, and Buccaneers where late-game heroics (and arguably some luck) have pushed KC’s winning streak to 15 games – the longest since Green Bay in 2010-11.
The Chiefs now prepare to face the 8-2 Buffalo Bills in what promises to be a high-stakes matchup, and possibly a preview of the AFC title game, on November 17th in New York.
