Cameron Young shot 11-under for a 59 at the Travelers Championship on Saturday, achieving the first sub-60 round on the PGA Tour in nearly 4 years. To pull off the remarkable feat, Young made two eagles on par 4s, including a wedge shot from 142 yards on the third hole, and driving the 280-yard 15th hole to within a yard. He could have gone even lower, but missed a short birdie putt on the 16th and failed to birdie the final hole. Despite missing out on the all-time course record held by Jim Furyk’s 58 in 2016, Young’s 59 tied him with Tom Kim at 13-under.
Young’s performance marked the 13th sub-60 round since Al Geiberger’s historic 1977 round. The most recent was by Scottie Scheffler in 2020. Other notable sub-60 rounds this year (outside of the PGA Tour) include Joaquín Niemann’s on LIV Golf and Cristobal del Solar’s record-tying 57 on the Korn Ferry Tour.
