Chaos swept through College Football this weekend as 5 of the AP’s Top 11 teams lost, including 4 to unranked opponents for the first time in nearly a decade.
Vanderbilt’s shocking 40-35 upset of #1 Alabama set the tone early, with Commodore fans storming the field and marching goalposts through Nashville in celebration. It was Vandy’s first win over a Top 5 team ever (they were 0-60 all time).
The upsets continued with #4 Tennessee falling to Arkansas 19-14 in a thrilling finish that led to fans rushing the field in Fayetteville. The upsets mark the first time in SEC history that two Top-5 teams lost to unranked opponents on the same day. Further adding to the SEC’s chaos was #9 Missouri’s 41-10 blowout loss to Texas A&M.
In the Big Ten, #10 Michigan saw its regular-season streak of 24 wins snapped by Washington in a 27-17 rematch of last year’s national title game. Meanwhile, #11 USC lost 24-17 to Minnesota with a late-game review overturning an initial call to give the Gophers a game-winning touchdown.
In the ACC, #8 Miami narrowly escaped an upset against unranked Cal in a remarkable 39-38 comeback after trailing by 20 points in the 4th quarter.
All in all, it was one of the wildest days ever in College Football.
