Rafael Nadal won his opening match in the Paris Summer Games to set up a highly anticipated second-round clash with longtime rival Novak Djokovic. Nadal defeated Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics (6-1, 4-6, 6-4) just 24 hours after winning a doubles match with Carlos Alcaraz. He now faces Djokovic, 37, who easily advanced by beating Australia’s Matt Ebden.
The two tennis legends, with a combined 46 Grand Slam titles, will meet for the 60th time. Djokovic currently has a 30-29 lead in the series, giving Nadal an opportunity to tie things up while Djokovic continues to pursue the elusive Olympic gold. Another chapter, perhaps the final, for their storied rivalry.
