At a packed news conference on Sunday, 58-year-old Mike Tyson confidently announced that he will be ‘ready‘ to face Jake Paul despite his recent health scare. The bout was originally set for July 20 but had to be postponed after Tyson suffered an ulcer flare-up. At the podium, the former heavyweight champion referred to himself as “the greatest fighter that ever lived” and assured his fans that he will be “ready and prepared” for Paul in November.
Paul, who’s 31 years younger than Tyson, taunted the New York City crowd and vowed to knockout the hometown boxing legend: “Hey New York, boo yourselves! You’re just like Tyson, you were good 20 years ago.” In fact, it was over 30 years ago when Tyson was at his peak as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world (1987-1990).
The fight, which will be streamed on Netflix from AT&T Stadium in Texas, is seen by Paul as a strategic step in his boxing career. Despite the age difference and fan support favoring Tyson, both fighters are eager to prove their worth in the ring.
