The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) is pursuing a major change to how players train and prepare in the off-season. The labor union is finalizing a proposal to eliminate voluntary on-field work in the spring, while favoring a longer training camp period starting in June. Typically the offseason program runs from mid-April through mid-June, followed by a 6-week break, then a training camp starting in mid-to-late July that leads up to the regular season.
The NFLPA has sought player feedback on adjusting the offseason schedule, with a majority of members in support of the proposed changes. A formal proposal is expected to be presented this summer with hopes of it being implemented by 2025, and will require agreement from the NFL through its collective bargaining process.
