After losing both games in Los Angeles, the Yankees find themselves in a high-pressure situation as the World Series heads to New York for Game 3. However, this isn’t the first time the Bronx Bombers have trailed 2-0 in a World Series. The last two times it happened – in 1996 vs the Braves and 2000 vs the Diamondbacks – the Yankees responded by winning 3 consecutive games.
So far, New York’s key hitters have struggled to deliver. In the first 2 games of the series, Aaron Judge went 1-for-9 with 6 strikeouts. His post-season slump continues to stifle the offense and will need to reverse course to keep the Yankees’ championship hopes alive. Teammate Anthony Rizzo expressed optimism about returning to New York and feeding off the energy of a raucous home crowd in the Bronx: “It’s a special place… When the stadium is rocking, we feel it!“
The Dodgers have some concerns about their star hitter as well. Shohei Ohtani went hitless in Game 2 and injured his shoulder while attempting to steal 2nd base following a walk in the 7th inning. Despite the injury, Ohtani is expected to play in Game 3.
The action begins Monday night at 8:00 ET on FOX. The starting pitchers will be Walker Buehler for L.A. and Clarke Schmidt for New York.
